My personal challenge…

Since I was young, I have wanted to write a book. I started one in my thirties, and stopped after 40 pages. If I recall it wasn’t very good.

I have no illusions that I am capable of writing a best seller. But I am determined to write an entire book, and then to self publish. The self publish part is my 70th birthday gift to myself. (I will celebrate later this year. I have about 100 pages so far, and it is becoming more difficult as the story progresses.

Oddly enough, as I listened to an online homily this morning, the priest (Fr. Mike Schmitz) offered some statistics. The percentage of people who want to write a book? 80%!!! Of those, how many will actually begin writing a book (not finish, but just begin) – less than 15%!!! And finally, the percentage who will actually complete writing a book? 1%. Only 1%?

I have just been incentivized to finally finish my book.

I want to be a part of a 1% club!

I will also continue to practice my writing each day on this site. It is, after all, where I started my book!

  1. Never let anyone deter you from fulfilling your dreams. My journey started in 1991, when I submitted a poem (Fall Garden) in response to a challenge from my son.

I wanted to write a Christmas Story for my kids and 3 grandchildren at the time, with two more due in a few months. I wrote “A Glimpse from Christmas Past” in the early fall of 2013. I read the rough draft to our three eldest grandchildren, who listened intently and, in unison, said, “Pop-Pop, you should publish it!” it has now been published 12 going on 13 years in Book, E*Book, and Audible (Free Sample Listen) – http://www.A-Glimpse-From-Christmas-Past@Audible.com

My second book published was a children’s book called “Keira in the Mirror” to be followed by “Where’s John Liam, Now I See Him.” Never got to publishing it.

This past September, I published a family legacy piece I started 10 years ago, but finished just recently, now that it looks like we are done having grandkids giving birth to – A Chance Encounter with A Most Unusual Acquaintance

My last book was published, despite fighting past health issues. I wanted to leave my kids and grandchildren a family legacy holiday piece, as my wife and I just celebrated our 50th Anniversary, and I just recently turned 70. I used my wife as my editor, but I will admit that grammar was a weakness of mine; storytelling came easier. However, with tools like Grammarly, it certainly helped in the process. I explained to my wife at the onset that all writers use editors, proofreaders, and the like of which to this day are not titled with – AUTHOR
