It’s happened so often. That random person that happens along at just the right time. Once I was driving on I95 and my car began to smoke. It was a newer model car, and well maintained. I have no idea why it happened. As the smoke came billowing out, the car struggled to maintain speed. I was in the middle lane, but there was too much traffic to go right, I had to use the shoulder on the left. It happened pre mobile phone era, so I sat, trying to think of what to do, when all of a sudden a man came up and screamed for me to get out of the car. Up until that point I just thought the car had overheated, but it was actually on fire. He had a fire extinguisher and proceeded to put out the fire.
At that same moment a state trooper pulled up behind me. He asked me if I was okay, and then I told him that I thought my car was just overheated but that the man told me to get out of the car, and he put the fire out. I turned around to point him out to the trooper but he was gone! I asked him if he saw him leave? I began mumbling…I figured he was a painter, because he had on white overalls, and was in a white van. I figured he had to have seen him because he pulled up behind me just as he finished putting out the fire. Well he just looked at me kind of strange and said no. Over the years as I recall that day, I am convinced it was my guardian angel.
I believe I have kept my guardian angel very busy over the years. There was another time when I was driving my mother home, and as I accelerated my car when the light turned green, a speeding car crossed the intersection at high speed, running the red light. It was as if I could see everything in slow motion. I was cringing, waiting to hear the sound of impact. Then oddly I opened my eyes when there was no sound of impact – it appeared as though our cars looked like a “ghost version” of itself. They crossed through one another. Til today, I wouldn’t believe anyone who would say that – but it did happen! Both my mother and I were shaken, and we looked at one another. I continued to drive and looking ahead I asked her if she saw what I saw. She nodded her head, and we both chalked it up to divine intervention.
These are but two of many instances in my life that I can recall. I cannot count the number of times something very similar happened – maybe it would make a good subject for a book.
Now having experienced almost three quarters of a century of life, I say with confidence that most of my positive stranger encounters were my heavenly protectors, my guardian angel. At least it feels that way for me.
